des ptits trous, des ptits trous, toujours des ptits trous * A piercing account...Semaine/Week 11 (28/10/06)
Creuser un trou, c'est simple, surtout avec une grosse pelleteuse. Samedi, nous avons eu la visite de notre terrasseur, qui soit dit en passant a fait un boulot remarquable, nous laissant le soin de couper nos arbres pour l'hiver prochain. Meme shane était impressionnée par son boulot, malgres le fait que pas mal de végétation ai disparu.
*Ahhhhh!!! Where've all the beautiful trees gone?! Fabrice tried to prepare me for the shock of the disaster-zone, but I was teary nonetheless. And the work's not even finished yet.... The lower part of the property has been totally transformed in preparation for the sewrage system and underground drainage, leaving a huge open space exposed to the neighbours field. At least my gardenning in that section of the land will start from scratch...

Le trou que nous avions fait le week end dernier s'est agrandi comme par magie. L'idée derriere ça était de pouvoir percer le mur à partir de l'extérieur.
Vendredi et samedi matin ont été pour moi des allés retour chez brico dépot pour acheter le matériel nécessaire a la salle de bain et l'élec. Comme dit tonton, je suis l'intendant, et parfois, l'intendance ne suit pas :)
*Last weekends hole in the ground has magically deepened thanks to the sewrage guys bobcat which made fast work of it. It has been gauged out directly where the plumbing pipes will exit the back of the cottage, the idea being to be able to drill through the wall from both sides.
Friday and Saturday morning saw Fab off buying bathroom and electrical supplies at Brico Dépot.
Bref, le samedi matin, apres avoir passé quelques heures a l'aube chez bricodep, me voila sur place pour filer un coup de main a Alain et tonton. Le second, étant passé pendant la semaine nous faire une tuyauterie d'orfevre pour la partie salle de bain. Et la je dis chapeau bas. Grosse maitrise le tonton.
*Fabrice went from Brico Dépot to Hanvec Saturday morning to join cousin Alain and Uncle Jean-Alain. His uncle had already dropped by during the week to do a marvelous job on the copper plumbing pipes. Not finished yet, but it's looking great!
La journée des samedi a été des plus productive. Alain a posé une bonne partie des prises électriques, je me suis amusé a poser des goulottes sur plaintes coté murs en pierre pour pouvoir y accrocher plus facilement les prises électriques. Tonton quant à lui a joué du chalumeau.
* By the end of the day Alain had managed to install most of the power points and Fabrice had helped out by screwing a few wooden planks onto the stone walls which will serve as better supports for the plastic wire-protectors and the other power points.
Dimanche, nous sommes retournés pour finir le trou commencé le week end dernier derriere la maison. Shane et Alanna étaient la pour m'encourager dans mes efforts, mais c'est surtout la visite impromptue de Christian, un ami qui m'a été d'une aide précieuse.
*On Sunday we went back to finish off the hole in the wall of the cottage. Alanna and I were there to give Fabrice plenty of encouragement, but what he needed more was someone to jump down into the dirt trench and keep a close eye on his progress, but I just can't bend down that far anymore!!! Luckily a good friend, Christian, made us a spontaneous visit just in the nick of time, and when I returned from a trip to the Brest airport (to say goodbye to Al), the hole in the wall had just about been achieved!
Creuser un trou de plus de 15 cm de diametre dans une base en terre/chiste, au raz du sol, n'est pas des plus aisé. Apres moultes efforts et quelques heures au marteau perforateur avec un petit forré de presque un metre de long nous sommes parvenu a un résultat presque parfait.
*It was no easy task to eat out a hole 15cm wide in a base of shale and earth, but armed with a 1m long drill and with a few hours up their sleeves, Fabrice and Christian made nice work of it. The hole will accomodate a 100mm pipe for the toilet, plus a 50mm pipe for grey water.
Les tuyaux de 100 et de 50 passeront l'un sur l'autre sans aucun soucis. D'ailleurs, en voici la preuve!

La journée trous s'est terminée avec celui qui servira a faire passer le gaz pour la gazinierre.
Que du bonheur pour le dos cette journée.
* The day was rounded off with another hole in the wall, this time to pass a gas pipe through from the gas bottle outside to the stove inside. Fabrice didn't do his back any good today, but he went to bed with a smile on his face thinking about how much we'd advanced with our work-schedule just this weekend!
Nous sommes bien content de ce week end super productif qui nous rapproche du but. La douche et les toilettes sont sur place, le chauffe eau est presque installé, bref tout roule!
* So we're happy to see things moving along smoothly. The shower and toilet are ready to roll, the water heater nearly installed....this is started to look like a rather luxurious cottage hide-away! :))
