Nettoyage d'été * Summer Clean-Out - Semaine/Week 2 (14-20/08/06)
A peine signé que nous voici en train de débroussailler, couper dans les ronces, le liere et autre végétation. Apres les pousses de printemps, le terrain ressemble plus a de la Pampa Argentine ou de la brousse Australienne qu'à un terrain de Bretagne.
Grace à la générosité de Stephane et Claire qui nous ont prété un débroussailleur tout neuf, et l'achat d'une hache et autres outils indispensables, nous avons rendu le terrain un peu plus habitable.
Shane s'amusait à attraper les araignées dans un bocal pour les jeter de l'autre coté de la route pendant que je dégommais les ronces sur notre superbe grange/arbre!
***The ink still drying on the sales papers at the notaires office we ripped into the brush-cutting work thanks to a huge whipper-snipper which our friends Stéphane and Claire generously lent to us. We'd also stocked up on an impressive array of tools and gardening supplies which allowed us to start the long process of unlocking the iron grip that the ivy has on the stone walls. We felt like we were fighting with a giant squid as we prised off the ivy tentacles from the shed photographed bellow.
We spent most of our week of holidays on the property, sleeping in the loft of the cottage. I had to de-spider the place first, using the trusty Cusack technique of catching them in a large glass jar and letting them free a few 100 meters away. I can honestly say that even as a proud spider-savey australian I was rather impressed by the quantity and size of the little nippers that I found in every nook and cranny of the place. I saw a viper wiggle past the house (just where I'm standing in the photo) that day too. Funny little thing with a squarish body. I had to ask myself if it wasn't just a legless lizard! Do you still want to come and visit us??? ; )
